Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine team specializes in the diagnosis and management of a variety of complex medical conditions. We commonly employ minimally invasive tools such as endoscopy and advanced imaging modalities to obtain a diagnosis for your pet.

The specialty of Internal Medicine includes:

Evaluation by an internist involves a thorough review of your pet’s history and previous medical care, physical exam, and a variety of diagnostic testing tailored to your pet’s needs. The team will then develop individualized treatment plans for your pet. Sometimes the reasons are obvious, but internists often serve as our veterinary “detectives,” using special tools and training to uncover what is causing the symptoms and what can be done to help a pet feel better.

If your primary care veterinarian notices something unusual, he or she may refer you to a board-certified internist at our hospital for further evaluation. We work very closely with you and your veterinarian to come up with a comprehensive treatment approach for your pet that is effective and fits your comfort level as a caregiver.

Some conditions commonly in need of advanced treatment from an internist include:

  • Diabetes

  • Cushing’s Disease

  • IMHA

  • Kidney disease

  • Bladder stones

  • Gastrointestinal disorders
